Like a lot of places worldwide, house prices in the U.K. reached a four-year high during the pandemic. But in a unique turn, would-be buyers were especially focused on finding homes with gardens or green spaces, according to an article published by Eastern Daily Press. A full 79% of member agents predicted more demand for properties with green space. Home and garden real estate prices are directly correlated with each other. Home garden and DIY go hand and hand. Learning how to add a home garden can substantially increase your home value!

Sales were also up in last summer, a season when the market typically slows down. According to the Press: “properties with private plots and large gardens are selling for very high prices, because we have experienced the pain in lockdown of not enough space.” Part of the trend is also possibly caused by people incorporating routinely working from home into their schedules. Not only were they finding that they didn’t have enough space, but they also cultivated new hobbies, such as gardening, and were looking for spaces that would allow them to pursue their new interests.
Whether growing ornamental plants for aesthetic value (as well as to provide habitat for wildlife) or raising edible plants, the trend shows no sign of slowing, even as the pandemic begins to ease.
