Kiss the Ground on Netflix, a 2020 documentary narrated by actor Woody Harrelson, is a hopeful film in the face of the grave challenges we face with climate change.

The movie examines how industrial farming has damaged our soil and sent more carbon back into the atmosphere as a result. In order to undo the destruction of the soil, it argues, we must adopt regenerative practices that help cultivate healthy soil.

Kiss the Ground endorses regenerative agriculture–an old approach that’s recently found new life–to farming that could protect soil, replenish water supplies and, the film suggests, help better feed the world.

“There could be a way to eat food that heals the planet,” says one of the interview subjects.

Composting, managed grazing, peatlands, reforestation, seaweed farming and farmland restoration are just some of the ways the documentary proposes that we can help cut down on CO2 levels.
